Neo-Classical Repertoire Workshop – Sunday 26 April

Sunday 26 April – Neo-Classical Repertoire Workshop  (10 – 1:30pm)

This unique workshop is designed for professional dancers, current dance students and those who want to expand their experience of learning neo-classical choreography.

A 90-minute ballet class with live music will be followed by a one-off masterclass taught by Principal Ballerina, Celine Gittens. Bringing a wealth of experience, learn new skills in a supportive environment from one of the world’s leading principal artists.

Celine Gittens was born in Trinidad and joined the Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2006. There she was made first artist in 2009, soloist in 2011, first soloist in 2015, and principal in July 2016. On 5 October 2012, at the Birmingham Hippodrome Gittens became the first black ballerina to dance the twin roles of Odette and Odile in Swan Lake in the United Kingdom. She completed a Master of Philosophy degree at the University of Birmingham in 2012 and continues to enthral audiences around the country with her stunning performances.

Join Jovani himself inside the London City Ballet studio, and learn first-hand some favourite moments from his many roles at New York City Ballet.

A 90-minute ballet class will be taught by Christopher Marney (Artistic Director of London City Ballet) with live music, followed by repertoire coaching, discussion and a Q&A session with Jovani.

Jovani Furlan is from Brazil,  joined the Miami City Ballet in 2012 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2017. In 2019, he moved to the New York City Ballet as a soloist, and became a principal dancer in 2022. Jovani is the Founder of premium dance wear brand, Furlan Dancewear

For dancers who want to train specifically en pointe and experience the acclaimed 4Pointe method from the founder of its technique, Lynne Charles (Director of English National Ballet School). 

A ballet & pointe class will be taught followed by solo coaching where tools to utilise the 4Pointe method will be incorporated to articulate the work. Company repertoire will then be taught by Chris Marney ending in a Q&A seasion.  

The workshop is designed for experiencing a different type of pointe work coaching for those interested in expanding their skill en pointe and offering new techniques to take into rehearsal and performance.
